Roy in the Clouds: Characters

ROY: Roy is an innocent, perceiving his surroundings with fresh sparkling eyes. He’s an optimist, but he’s an emotional guy prone to extremes – be it excitement and joy, to terrible fear or furious anger. He takes nothing calmly, but is a loyal friend and is easily lost in
his imagination.
PHIL: Phil is Roy’s Roommate and best friend: He just appeared on the couch one day with a big smile. Roy knows Phil’s name because it’s written on him. We never see Phil move or speak, but he always seems to turn up when Roy needs a friend.
BETTY: Betty is a bus driver and the most beautiful girl in Cloud City – as far as Roy is concerned. They’re good friends and Betty tries to help Roy with his fears, while trying to save him from getting himself in trouble whenever she can. Betty is kind, level headed, and thoughtful; she loves driving the bus and is quite pleasant to most everyone.
TED: Roy’s good neighbour Ted gives some good advice – or at least Roy thinks so. When Roy is down or feeling troubled, Ted is usually there to lift his spirits or show him the way to solve a problem. Ted loves technology, and he’s always tinkering with some new gadget. Ted has a very large head; too large to be supported by his thin body, so he relies on his wired helmet to get around.
JOE: Joe is super-smart, wears glasses and is generally serious. He is very good with numbers, and works with Roy at the Cloud Factory, where they enjoy hanging out by the water cooler. Joe and Betty also get along very well, often enjoying conversations together on the bus drive to work – so Roy often views Joe as his adversary for Betty’s attention.
MR. BOSS: Roy works for Mr. Boss at the Cloud Factory,
and he can look pretty threatening because of his large eyebrow. Mr. Boss likes work, keeping a sharp lookout for any slacking – especially daydreaming! Sometimes, he loses his temper if he catches Roy daydreaming at his desk and slowing down cloud production, but he is quick with praise when Roy works hard and shows up to the factory early.
