Cutting Edge Motion Capture in Calgary

We're proud to announce that we have expanded our services offerings to include marker-less motion capture for film, television and game development. Our solution, from industry-leading Xsens Technology (http://www.xsens.com) is a cutting-edge motion capture hardware and software package that uses inertial motion sensors together with gyroscopic measurement to capture performances with incredible accuracy and without the need for expensive cameras or facilities.

It's completely portable and can be set up, calibrated and capturing data within 30 minutes; but the really exciting thing is that because the system is self-contained, we can capture anywhere, any time - you could even run a marathon and we could capture the entire thing just driving alongside the athlete with a laptop computer.

Motion capture is the process by which an actor's live performance is measured and recorded, then transferred to a digital double, either via post processing or in real-time. The technology from Xsens has been used in major motion pictures for visual effects and animation including Iron Man 2, Paul, XMen: First Class and in video games like EA's FIFA Soccer 2010 and Silent Hill.

The possibilities are endless. We used the system for creating incredibly detailed layout animation for our CGI feature film, The Wizard's Christmas, but it can also be used for pre-visualization of visual effects or stunts, and for capturing animation cycles for game development. To be honest, we haven't even started to scratch the surface of the possibilities. Certainly, it saved us a ton of time and money so far.

New Machine will be offering the system, which is completely portable, for rent to other studios, from Manitoba to British Columbia.

It's still very new, and there aren't very many other systems that can do what we can do, especially the way that we do it; being portable and easy to set up. We're hoping that other producers will see the benefit and put us to work helping them to short circuit their production pipeline or help with pre-production.

We will be offering complimentary services, including post-processing and cleanup all the way to fully produced pre-visualization sequences, and will be offering discount rates until the end of the year to encourage producers to give the system a chance.

We completed 4 months of layout animation for a team of animators with only two people in 5 days. That's pretty compelling and we think other producers will want to get that kind of cost savings
